Apple co-founder wins IBC International Honour for Excellence Award
Steve Wozniak, who co-founded Apple with Steve Jobs, and in turn helped to change the face of the media industry forever, has been named as the recipient of this year’s IBC International Award for Excellence.
The two men built the original Apple computers first in Jobs’ bedroom, only moving to the garage when the production runs got bigger. Income from that first computer gave Wozniak and Jobs the cash to develop the Apple II, which is where the revolution really began. “I threw in high resolution graphics,” says Wozniak. “It was only two chips. I didn’t know if people would use it.” But for the first time a computer could display pictures instead of just letters - and the revolution began.
Despite famously saying that you should “never trust a computer you can’t throw out a window”, Steve Wozniak’s vision 21 years ago led directly to powerful, affordable and flexible creative tools available to all today.
The award will be presented to him on the Friday morning of this year’s IBC, during the conference session ‘The next 40 years: surviving the challenge or grasping the opportunity?’ at 11.30 in the Forum. He will be interviewed by Ray Snoddy, in a session that also includes the IBC keynote address from Gary Shapiro of the Consumer Electronics Association. It will be open to all IBC visitors to attend.
