Simpsons star to speak at radio conference and awards
American comedy actor and writer, Harry Shearer, best known for his voice work for The Simpsons and as the bass player Derek Smalls in the classic mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, is this year’s keynote speaker for the Australian Radio Conference and Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs), both to be held in Melbourne in October.
Shearer plays a stable of characters in The Simpsons - most notably the evil nuclear power plant owner Mr Burns, the annoying neighbour, Ned Flanders, as well as Smithers, Kent Brockman, Reverend Lovejoy and Dr Hibbert, among others.
Apart from his multiple roles in The Simpsons, Shearer performs a weekly radio comedy/music program, called Le Show, which airs on over 90 radio stations worldwide, and has been running for 24 years.
Harry’s other film credits include The Fisher King, The Truman Show, A Mighty Wind, Chicken Little, Godzilla, The Right Stuff and For Your Consideration. He was also a regular cast member of Saturday Night Live in the early 1980s.
This year’s Australian Radio Conference will be held at the Crown complex in Melbourne on Friday 12th October. The annual conference is a highlight for the Australian radio industry and has featured many high profile keynote speakers over the past few years including John Cleese; Sir Bob Geldof, Barry Humphries; astronaut, Buzz Aldrin, Clive James and director Bruce Beresford. More speakers for the conference will be announced shortly.
The 19th annual ACRAs will be held at Crown Casino in Melbourne on Saturday 13th October and is a gala event of the radio industry’s calendar, attracting radio personalities and stars from around Australia.
