Panasonic’s first Blu-ray disc player to be launched in Australia will hit our stores this month as part of a large scale launch of high definition products by the company.

Held appropriately enough in Sydney’s Entertainment Quarter (formerly known as Fox Studios), the launch event saw Panasonic take the wraps off its new DMP-BD10 Blu-ray disc player, as well as a host of other consumer electronic devices, including plasma and LCD TVs, video and still cameras, projectors and surround sound audio systems.

Jan Ergen, product marketing, DVD, Consumer Electronics Group, Panasonic, said of the new Blu-ray device: “The Panasonic DMP-BD10 delivers superior digital image quality, demonstrating the power of Full HD.

“Panasonic’s first Blu-ray Disc player truly is a ‘window to reality’, especially when combined with a 1080p Full HD display device such as the Panasonic TH-65PV600A Plasma or PT-AE1000 projector, and matching components.”

Blu-ray disc technology is a next-generation optical disc format for storing a large amount of data using a short wavelength blue laser to read the disc. A Blu-ray disc has a data storage capacity of 25GB in a single layer disc (equal to five DVD discs or 35 CD discs) and 50GB on a dual layer disc.
