The LaB Sydney, which grades film and tape for television commercials, feature films, documentaries, and television series, have moved their Spirit DataCine suite from its original location in Sydney’s Crows Nest to their main facility in nearby Artarmon.
The LaB’s Telecine department houses the Spirit DataCine, Cintel’s C-Reality, and two URSA Diamonds backed by four da Vinci colouring desks with engineering and technical support.
“This move is part of the LaB’s continuing commitment, after the merger with Digital Pictures, to consolidate all our facilities at one location. These facilities are complimented by the LaB’s in-house 3D department, Smoke, Fire, Flame, Inferno suites as well as LaBDesign, one of the most awarded and experienced design teams in the region. the LaB’s commitment to its clients is process negative to broadcast all under one roof,” said Ian Johnson, general manager of the LaB.
The LaB is building and transitioning its telecine facility from its traditional base to include more digital grading in a data centric environment, with the relocation of the Spirit chain the first major step. Recent feature film projects at the LaB sydney include Ten Canoes, Unfolding Florence, Book of Revelation, Footy Legends, Razzle Dazzle and Hunt Angels.
Johnson added: “We currently have ten rooms being modified which will efficiently bring together all our resources under one roof at Artarmon. And this is just part of our plan. Our goal is to give our clients the best environment to work on their projects and get the best creative results.”
